Exercise Equipment With Built In Games Encourages Kids To Be Active

Many kids are unaware of the impacts that their current lifestyle will have on the rest of their life.  As a parent, it is your job to teach them about the importance and benefits of being active and eating a healthy diet.

Regardless of age, being physically active and participating in fitness is necessary to maintain or improve your overall health.  Typically, small children enjoy running around and playing, whether it is with sports, jungle gyms, or just in the backyard. These are basic, fun fitness activities that you and your kids can enjoy together.

For a short time, video games made this more difficult to motivate kids to get out and play, but now there are interactive games that get you up and moving in the living room.  This is especially useful when there is colder weather outside and snow makes it hard to play.

Exercise equipment like spinning bikes and treadmills are also becoming popular even for kids when it’s cold outside. Some of the home fitness equipment even includes built in video games they can play while exercising.

There is a population of the youth who see no benefit or need to exercise or be active.  This can be very dangerous for them now and especially into the future.

If they do not prepare or condition their body to move around while they are young, they are not likely to change those habits as they get older.  Making sure that they view exercise as a fun thing to participate in will help ensure that they can have a healthy lifestyle as they mature.

Many children, especially teenagers, are so enthralled with watching television, playing video games, texting, and surfing the web that they fail to move around.  This, combined with poor eating habits can lead to obesity, which is a huge problem among today’s youth.

Computers are not entirely to blame, however, as they offer an accessible outlet to get information about anything in the world.  They should definitely be used as a tool for the mental development of the youth, but they do not help out much when it comes to fitness.

Parents should teach their children how to balance time in front of screens with the time they spend playing sports or doing other physical activities.  Telling them what they should do is not enough; parents should lead by example to reinforce the healthy lifestyle choices – and engage their children to participate in exercise activities.

Everyone, no matter their age, should be getting at least 60 minutes of exercise a day.  This can come in the form of walking around the mall or running a marathon, and the activities can be split up throughout the day to make it easier.

This means they can walk to school for 10 minutes, play at recess for 30 minutes, walk home for another 10 minutes, and maybe run around the backyard with the dog for the final 10 minutes after dinner.  All together they will have gotten 60 minutes of exercise, even if it was split up into small increments of time.

Even though many people view exercise as boring and hard, it is important to show kids how much fun it can be.  Team sports can really help with this, as can fun activities with the family like bike riding, hiking, rock climbing, and swimming.

Exercise is a necessity, but it should be anticipated, not dreaded.  Make sure you make the activities that you do with your child or that you have them participate in are fun for them, and that they will enjoy doing over and over again.

It can be hard finding the right activity, as personalities, likenesses, and interests differ between individuals.  You may have to try out a variety of different things before you find what will motivate your children to be active and stay that way.

Younger kids love going to the park where there is a play ground.  It is hard to find a child who does not love to play on jungle gyms, swing sets, merry-go-rounds, slides, and monkey bars.

There are so many different options where they can run around, climb, jump, and maneuver their body through obstacles.  Parks are a great way for them to make friends and socialize as well.

Parks are also a great place for you to bring sporting equipment like a baseball bat, ball, and glove to play a game with the family or with friends.  You can also use the wide open space of a park to play football, kickball, soccer, Frisbee, and a ton of other games.

Keep in mind that while you are encouraging your kids to get out there and go play, you too can join in on the fun and get your 60 minutes of exercise too.  Make sure that you set a good example for the youth so they know you are just as committed to your own health as you are to theirs.
